Since joining BDA Architecture in 1999, Dave has dedicated his architectural career exclusively to the planning and design of animal care facilities. Over the past 27 years, he has completed more than 200 animal care projects all across the United States, Canada, and internationally—ranging from veterinary hospitals and animal adoption shelters to equine practices and major university veterinary school facilities.

As a Senior Partner, Dave builds collaborative teams between clients, contractors, engineers, and building officials, overseeing every project phase from initial programming and conceptual space planning through to final construction. Guided by a design philosophy rooted in efficiency and exceptional user experience, he understands the unique operational challenges of shelter medicine and veterinary practice. His work consistently delivers innovative solutions that enhance animal welfare, support staff workflows, and create welcoming environments for both pets and people.

An expert in animal care architecture, Dave is regularly invited to speak at major veterinary conferences across the United States and has authored numerous articles for industry publications.

Colin Campbell, AIA, NCARB, ICC, Architect, Partner

Colin has been a driving force at BDA Architecture since 2002, bringing over two decades of specialized expertise in the planning, design, and construction of animal care facilities nationwide. Colin excels at technical problem-solving, complex renovations, and building conversions—successfully translating sophisticated design concepts into resilient, high-performing spaces.

His extensive portfolio spans facilities ranging from 1,200 to 56,000 square feet, including veterinary general practices, referral and specialty emergency centers, university veterinary schools, animal shelters, and service dog training centers. With deep technical knowledge spanning medical gas systems, advanced imaging (MRI and CT), specialized animal housing, and acoustic and odor control, Colin navigates the intricate maze of municipal codes, zoning ordinances, and structural challenges to ensure every project is fully optimized. A number of the projects he has managed have earned prestigious veterinary hospital design awards, underscoring his unwavering commitment to craft, code mastery, and client vision.

Becky Gasser, NCARB, Director of Design, Partner

Becky joined the BDA team in 2010 after earning her degree in Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Driven by a lifelong passion for animals and thoughtful design, she found her calling in the specialized field of animal care facility planning, working her way up from intern to Partner over the past 16 years. As BDA's Director of Design, she has led projects across the United States, including veterinary hospitals, pet resorts, animal shelters, and guide dog training centers, serving as lead designer on numerous award-winning facilities.

Her expertise encompasses floor plan development, 3D modeling and rendering, exterior and interior design, and the careful selection of materials that prioritize animal well-being. As a Fear Free Certified Professional, Becky leverages her deep understanding of animal behavior and operational needs to integrate compassionate care principles into every project. She is committed to creating innovative, low-stress environments that promote calm, comfort, and confidence for both animals and the people who care for them. She regularly shares her specialized expertise through articles and by speaking at major veterinary conferences.

Paul Gladysz, Consulting Principal, AIA Emeritus

As a longstanding Principal at BDA Architecture, Paul brings over 40 years of specialized experience in the design and management of animal care facilities. Having been involved in more than 300 animal care projects—including over 20 award-winning facilities—he is a recognized expert in veterinary specialty, referral and critical care centers, and animal boarding.

An expert who has completed projects across nearly every region of the country and abroad, Paul has contributed extensively to national veterinary publications, publishing articles on innovative construction materials, design methods, and architectural standards. He is also a founding partner of CMP, Inc., a construction and equipment integration company dedicated exclusively to animal care facilities.

Today, Paul lends his decades of institutional knowledge to BDA as a Senior Consultant, offering his lifetime of accumulated expertise and guidance and ensuring the firm's foundational standards of excellence continue on.
