A Look Back: Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group
In Brooklyn sat a vacant lease space, fenced off and shuttered. VERG saw potential there and BDA helped them realize their vision, transforming the unoccupied space into a state-of-the-art veterinary emergency and specialty hospital.
The demand for specialized veterinary care underscores the importance of well-designed facilities in delivering exceptional services and fostering positive environments. BDA, a firm specializing in innovative and functional veterinary spaces, partnered with Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group (VERG) in New York City to transform a vacant lease space in Brooklyn into a leading veterinary center serving the community. Completed in 2017, this building conversion showcases BDA's thoughtful design, incorporating key features like effective noise management and efficient maintenance solutions to create a state-of-the-art veterinary emergency and specialty hospital.
Comprehensive Care: Specialized Services and Advanced Facilities at VERG
Veterinary Emergency and Referral Group (VERG) is a comprehensive animal health center providing a wide range of specialized services, including internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dermatology, and ophthalmology. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, VERG also offers crucial emergency and critical care. The hospital's clinical spaces are efficiently organized across two floors, featuring 10 exam rooms, multiple specialized surgery suites, and a dedicated oncology/chemotherapy room. To support advanced diagnostics and treatment, VERG is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technologies such as MRI, CT, and ultrasound, along with specialized treatment rooms catering to various medical specialties.
Creating a Tranquil Environment: Thoughtful Noise Management at VERG
Recognizing the impact of noise in a busy veterinary setting, BDA strategically addressed acoustics at VERG. The hospital was divided into distinct zones using buffer spaces and specialized acoustic partitions designed to minimize sound transmission. This zoning helped create quieter public areas, such as the lobby and exam rooms, and more peaceful working spaces for staff. By focusing on smart zoning and sound-dampening materials, BDA contributed to a calmer environment for clients and a more focused atmosphere for the veterinary team.
Efficiency and Hygiene: Streamlining Animal Care Areas at VERG
BDA's design for VERG also prioritized the practicality and hygiene of animal care areas. Animal runs were equipped with individual floor drains and nearby hose bibs for easy cleaning. Strategically placed single floor drains throughout the hospital allow for quick and efficient spill cleanup. These features enhance workflow efficiency and maintain high hygiene standards, crucial for patient health and staff time management.
Equipping for Excellence: Advanced Technology and Resources at VERG
VERG is equipped with a comprehensive array of advanced medical technology, reflecting its commitment to providing cutting-edge care across specialties. This includes essential anesthesia equipment, sophisticated diagnostic analyzers and monitors, and various specialized animal housing solutions. The hospital also features state-of-the-art dental and imaging equipment, an endoscopy system, grooming and lift tables, and physical therapy/rehabilitation equipment. Efficient practice management software streamlines administration. VERG also has significant capacity for diverse patient needs, including multiple feline and canine wards, pre-operative and ICU cages, and specialized housing for internal medicine patients. BDA's design seamlessly integrates this extensive equipment for optimal workflow.
BDA and VERG: A Vision Realized
The design of Veterinary Emergency & Referral Group by BDA demonstrates a commitment to creating a healing and efficient environment for both patients and staff. By prioritizing noise management, streamlining maintenance, and integrating advanced medical equipment within a thoughtfully planned space, BDA has helped VERG establish itself as a leading veterinary center in New York City. This project showcases BDA's understanding of the unique needs of veterinary professionals and their patients.
